When Form Meets Function You Get...

...Clipboard Art!

Now, let me just make the disclaimer that I did not come up with this idea on my own. It would take a miracle for me to think of something like this!
My sweet friend Julie had us over for a play-date the other day and while our girls played, and her youngest tried to keep up with them, I had the chance to notice some new things in the absolutely darling Play Room she has created for her kiddos.
Julie is truly one of the most creative people I know! She throws Birthday parties like nobody's business and sometime I hope she will let me share some of her amazing ideas with you all. She doesn't have her own Blog...yet! I'm working on her!

I noticed that on one of her walls she had created a wonderful way to display the kids art projects. She claims she saw the idea in a magazine and didn't take credit for it, but I'm giving it to her anyway!
And, of course, I may not come up with the idea, but I sure can Copy it!
You see, I've had this blank wall staring at me in our Play Room.

And when I saw Julie do this in her Play Room I knew it would work for us too!

Just buy yourself some average, run of the mill Clipboards, hang them on the wall

And you have yourself a great way to display (some of) the lovely artwork and School work your kids bring home.

Does anyone else get overwhelmed by the sheer volume of papers that come into your home each week???

Having a Play Room is truly a blessing and it is the perfect spot for these fun decorating ideas. I think it would also work well, though, in an Office or even a Mud Room!

If I can somehow manage to take pictures that don't include the massive effects of the Tornadoes that are my children, I'm hoping to have some more details of this space to show you this week!

For now, I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who participated in the Party Hearty Weekend we had here at Southern In My Heart! Between Inspiration Friday and the First Annual Sister Saturday Soup Exchange, there was a lot of activity going on and it was so much fun!
You are all such a blessing to me. And, it was such a treat to see all of your projects and I now have enough Soup Recipes to last us all winter long!
Be sure to keep watching for news about our next Sister Saturday Party where we will be hosting our First Annual

Cookie Exchange!

And before I go, here is a little glimpse at my Munchkins from last night. This was definitely a Homemade Halloween!

If you can guess who my son is supposed to be you
get a Gold Star!

Have a great Monday from
this Southern Girl at Heart,
Vanessa

What a cute idea!!! So easy and inexpensive and you change the artwork out! I too get slammed with papers after papers! :) I have a box for all their 'special' projects from school.
The kids look adorable and the costume turned out great!! I know what he is so I won't give it away! ;) Nice job!!

I certainly don't know what your son is but if he was dressed in green I would say he was an Oregon Duck!!!! Go Ducks! But they are sure cute!!!

Very clever idea. That's a great way to display the ever changing artwork. Your kids look very cute AND your front porch where they're standing looks so nice.

Can't wait to check out your soup exchange recipes!

What a clever idea! Just don't have any artwork anymore :( Past that season of life. May have to catalog it and use for the grans one day.

Cute idea with the clipboards. Will have to remember that for the grandkids.

What a great idea! It works like storage too because you can always put the new ones up over the old ones until you get a big stack!

We have one of those memo boards that the children are allowed to ut their 'best' piece up on.

My younger two bring home endless pieces of paper with a few scribbles on.....

I like this idea...

He's Perry! Right?! My little brother just ordered a hat with him on it and that is the ONLY reason I know...

Love the art display idea. My fridge runs out of space plus I would MUCH rather have it displayed in the playroom...now I just need a play room!

OK, I was going to say Donald Duck, but then I cheated and read comments so I think I'm wrong.

No matter, because they're both just as cute as can be in their costumes no matter WHAT duck he is.

I love that clip board idea and wish it had been around when I had a house full of masterpieces.

And I was excited to see a cookie exchange. The one culinary talent I have is in cookie baking.

Tell sister Heather to bring it on! Ha!

That clip board idea is great. We are facing the overflow of papers here and I keep trying to figure out a good way to display them.

Love the clipboard idea. I will show this to my daughter-I think this will work great for her kids.

As to the costume...uh...I am guessing either Donald Duck or a cold Platypus? (blue being the defining look for cold)...Am I close? Hugs- Diana

Very cool Idea. I will work on Julie as well. Was he Perry from Phineas and ferb?

I love that clipboard idea. I just saw it somewhere else recently. A magazine, I think? Your kids sure are cute. As for your son, he looks like a duck. Not sure who though. There are so many cartoons now days I lose track of what is going on :)

Hi Vanessa...

What a GRAND idea...to hang clipboards for the kiddos art work! I love that idea!!! Sheesh...sure wished someone had thought of that when my kiddos were still at home...it would have saved all the frig door organizing! Hehe! Well my friend, your kiddos are just adorable! What sweethearts! Ohh...I'm not even going to try and guess your son's costume...although I can see it is a duck. Now you definitely have my curiousity going! Hehe! Great photo, Vanessa! Such sweet memories being made!!!

Well my friend, I just wanted to come by to say thank you for your visit today! I just loved your sweet note...you always make my day, dear friend!!! Thanks!!!

Warmest autumn wishes,

That's easy ... they're Snooki and The Situation. LOL. Sorry, I couldn't resist. :) They look absolutely adorable! Did they have fun trick-or-treating? I'm totally digging the clipboard art! May have to borrow that idea! I put Jax's art in these 3-D frames that have hinges on the back that are specifically for art, but this idea is much more creative! And, thanks, girl for your kind note about my mudroom! Yup, I say paint yours. Soooo much easier to change out than wallpaper is! I can't wait to see what you do! Have a great day. Hugs, Becca

What a fabulous idea. It means, I could clear of my refrigerator.

Mine is for the grandkids who check, each time they visit, to find their masterpieces, which I am so proud of. Wouldn't they love a wall of their own?

This is a great idea, as kids like to make a lot of artwork :). I don't get extra points, 'cause I don't know who your son dressed up as.

Oh what fun -- so much to look at in this post. First -- the kids are darling. They look like they are so READY! I also love your entryway. It's very inviting for both Halloween and fall. Beautifully done.

The clipboard art is the perfect solution for all those special art projects that the children bring home. I wish I had thought of something like that when my children were younger. They are indeed treasures, aren't they?

Great post. Thank you for sharing, Vanessa, on the Boardwalk Bragfest!

Is he Perry the Platypus? Love the idea of using the clipboards!

I will have to show this to my boys! Of course there is no doubt that you were lucky enough to receive a visit from none other than Perry Perry The Platypus! I tried talking the boys into being Phineus & Pherb and they declined though we ALL love the show. I was really surprised that there were not any store versions of it.
