Inspiration Friday Party No. 19!

Welcome to Inspiration Friday No. 19!

Do you guys know how great you all are?
You don't? Well, let me tell you! I think you are the best of the best! Gracious, lovely, kind, and you asked me some GREAT questions which I am so excited to begin answering.

But ONE of you just had to go there and ask me questions that she knew would either make me relive a horrific hair moment or get me grounded if our parents found out!

My Sister had the nerve to leave this comment.

"Okay my turn. What was your worst haircut ever and what did your sister call you? Have you ever "borrowed" something from your sister without asking permission at some point in your pre-teen years and what was it? And last but not least did you ever sneak out of the house without Mom and Dad knowing? heheheh...."
I'm going to ease into this by only answering the first part of the question.
So, here goes...
My worst haircut ever was when my mom got the fabulous idea that my VERY, VERY, VERY thick hair would look good with some layering. And then, just to take it a step further, she decided that all of those layers needed a little curl to them so she had them give me a PERM!!!! Well, my hair was so thick that the perm only took in certain spots. So they permed it AGAIN! Layers and layers of kinky curls all around my head.  Please Mom, for the love of all that is Good and Holy, if you have any of those pictures still...BURN THEM!

Some might have called it a 'Fro', but my sister started calling me The Poodle.
I was in the 6th grade.
Kiss of death.
I'm still recovering.

Ok...let's move on to things that aren't so traumatic.

I thought that the question Sheri asked me tied in perfectly with
Inspiration Friday!
"What is your dream room - Post ONE pic of a room that epitomizes your style in that one and only photo."

This was HARD! I thought and thought and then I remembered some pics that I had torn from a magazine years and years ago.
I know I'm only supposed to pick one photo but these are all from the same house so that's ok, right Sheri?
These are from a house featured in Traditional Home magazine and I can vividly remember the first time I saw these photos. I really believe that it influence the direction I found myself leaning towards in my own decorating.

I think this is when my love affair with yellow walls and blue and white accents began!
Pops of red here and there, black lampshades, gorgeous fringes on the pillows, formal and yet still warm and welcoming.

This quote from the homeowner really sums it up.

And this isn't the best photo but I just couldn't resist showing you her gorgeous kitchen.

What can I say?
I love color. I love reds and yellows in combination with the crispness of the blue and white. I love something that feels warm and enveloping. I love a little bit of formality but nothing that is off-limits. My kiddos play and run through every single room of our house. They hide behind my curtains and put their toys on the tables, and yet I don't ever hesitate to decorate with the things that give me pleasure. Most of it I bought at Ross or TJ's anyway so if it gets broken, oh well! It is worth the risk to me to be able to have WHAT I love and WHO I love happily coexist.
You wanna know something?
The magazine issue which featured this home was from 1999!
Timeless and classic never goes out of style!

Now on to the Party!

Here are some fabulous features from last week.

Lori over at Thrifty Decor Mom took her thrifty self over to Target and bought this pack of napkins for $9.99.

She used them to recover some pillows in her Family Room.

Doesn't this look like something you would pay big bucks for at Pottery Barn? Great job Lori!

Next up is a blogger I have just begun to get to know but her warmth and charm make you feel like you have known her forever.
Heather from Love and Life at Leadora lives in an 1870's home which she and her husband are lovingly restoring. She shared this lovely tablescape at last weeks party.

I don't know if it is the way the sun is streaming in. Or perhaps how crisp and fresh it all looks. Or maybe it is how much it makes me think of Spring. All I know is that I love it!

Head over to Love and Life at Leadora to see more of Heather's home and to get some great recipes too!

Now, what have you all been up to this week? I know some of you have been snowbound and that has made things a bit challenging. But maybe it also gave you some time to try something new, or to start a new project, or to just finish one!
Whatever it is, we want to see it!

You know the drill...

hahah! Confession time! Actually I was just on the phone with mom and asked her, "For the love of all that is good and right in the world what were we thinking talking her into getting layers. and a perm. and a perm again?!" Thank goodness the 80's are over and beautiful thick, straight hair is all the fashion! :)

your sis.

Your inspiration pics are fabulous. I love the traditional style and the colors. So inviting. You've managed to make your home look the same way. Beautiful. Hugs, Marty

Oh I had a perm as a kid. It wasnt a pleasant experience for me either, haha! Love those rooms, they are so beautiful. Thanks for hosting your wonderful party again!

Thank you for hosting Vanessa!

I gave away those same napkins last year for a giveaway. How cool what she did with them. :)

Okay Vanessa, I'm so in love with that kitchen photo you posted - the yellow buffalo check window treatment is to die for... I'm considering doing something similar in my own kitchen! Yes, we were snowed in massively but not like we could do any projects since our snow blower died and we have like a 180' driveway we had to shovel and it was heavy stuff soooo, today I'm recovering, but am in a lot of pain :( But I'm enjoying your blog and your party. Have a great day!

Love the hair perm story. So your sister is the one to ask about your sneaking out of the house, right? Funny, funny story.

Your inspiration house is really an inspiration. I mentioned a few days ago just how much I love your yellow walls. You have captured your inspiration well in you home!

Thanks for being a charming hostess and hostessing today's party.

Hi!
Just read what Debbie said...
I, too, snuck outta my bedroom window, a lot when I was a teen.
I was naughty.
I, too, love yellows, red, blues!
And the pictures you shared-lovely!
I have been slowly fading to whites with pops of color, though, cuz that's what's happening in my next home. I think.
Target has the best napkins to make pillows with, I've done that, too!
What creative links!
Can I link my Life:Beautiful giveaway on this post?
I didn't want to until I asked if it was okay.

Hi Vanessa!!
Thank you once again for hosting!!!
I saw that gorgeous tablescape, and just couldn't put my finger on it, but I think it was the mix of silver, white and then fresh, green apples!!
I can't wait to go over and see Lori's blog as well

Sneaking out AND the victim of a perm? Sounds like ME! lol. I always knew you were wild and crazy gal ... that's why I like you so much! :) I love the inspiration pics ... that kitchen is drool-worthy. And, you're right, it's timeless! I have mags. from the 90s with pics that I STILL refer to when looking for inspiration. Thanks for hosting ... I'm linking up my little ol' great room. Have a great day, friend! xoxo, Becca

Those rooms are gorgeous! I love them! Is your link up themed for certain items only? I don't want to be linking up if its only for a certain theme. Thanks for hosting and have a great weekend.

Hi Vanessa, I love the rooms you chose. I use a lot of reds and golds, I have a harder time embracing the blue and white, although I love it when I see it! :) I think we all have a traumatic hair story! Hugs, Kim

Hi Vanessa! Thanks so much for featuring my pillows! You are awesome!

That's so funny that you had a bad perm and your sister called you Poodle. My nickname in school was Poodle because I permed my hair and it was really curly!

Thanks for hosting today - I linked up my Valentine candy trees!

I love your inspiration! Of course those are all the colors that I love, too! I don't have anything to add to the party this week. With my mom issues, my being sick and all the Christmas stuff still needing to be put away, I thought I better not be blogging!!! The hubby may not understand!

I am SOOOO happy you picked my question - because i think you sealed the deal on the rug for me. Your pics are timeless to me. My rug is not. I think i'm carrying it back.... LOVE THE PICTURES

Vanessa, now you have me laughing!!!
I have, thankfully, NEVER had to extract anything from my child's nose. whew. That must have been a traumatic adventure!

Ha! I had the same haircut/disaster!! My mom thought my hair was so cute short and permed!!! Oh it was awful I cried! And then she tried to put bows in, you couldn't even see them because the curls were everywhere! Did I miss that post about asking questions? I will have to catch up!
Love it, thanks for sharing that!!!
Love the photos and your home is very similar and so gorgeous like the pictures my friend! You have a wonderful eye!!

I know...how rude to stop by the party this morning and not even say 'hello!' I am out of town by myself...no husband, no kids, no dog! I have enjoyed catching up on some of your past posts! So, now I am dying to see a picture of the lovely 'do!' I'll post my big hair pix if you will!! Double dare...I sound like I am in sixth grade! So funny! Those days were funny and to think our parents let us out of the house knowing that we would draw so much attention! Well, it couldn't have been any worse than the guys with feathered hair and perms in their mullets! Is that only in the south?! just horrible! I'll move on! I am trying to think of a question for you!! I'll come up with one for ya'! Congrats on the 100 post AND I love the pix of the children! They look as thrilled about the 100 post as mine are about my blog! Nontheless, congratulations and I am glad to have found you, because you are so dear and always make me laugh! Oh! I will post some great sandwiches soon if you decide to do a Valentine's Party for your daughter! Take care!!

Hi Vanessa! I was one of the perm victims too, so I totally get that, but my worse time was the supposedly Dorothy Hamil haircut that I got that made me look and feel like a boy! I really love your inspiration pictures. I am always inspired by the homes at Traditional home. Sorry I did not leave a comment when I linked up. I am often very short on time after posting.I am off an on the computer alot during the day in little bits at a time. I did plan to come back when I had more time to read your post and respond authentically, as I always do. Seems I can get nothing right with blogging etiquette lately, it may be time to rethink this whole blogging business. Have a great weekend!
